Route of Civilisations - From the Black Sea to the Caucasus

Overview
This journey follows a cultural route to the historic cities of Georgia.
Over five days, travellers explore ancient monasteries, medieval towns and vibrant capital cities while discovering the shared heritage of the Caucasus region. From coastal Batumi to the historic streets of Tbilisi, the route connects landscapes, legends and living traditions.
Rather than rushing between destinations, the journey focuses on understanding the stories and cultures that have shaped this region for centuries.

Day 1 – Welcome to Georgia
Guests meet at Batumi Airport and begin the journey towards the Georgian border.
Our first destination is Batumi, a lively coastal city on the Black Sea. Before exploring the city, we enjoy lunch at a local winery restaurant located along the Çoruh Valley.
In the afternoon we take a walking tour of Batumi’s main landmarks, including Europe Square, Neptune Fountain, Medea Statue, Piazza Square, Ali & Nino Sculpture, and the seaside Batumi Boulevard.

Day 2 – Legends of the Ancient World
After breakfast we travel from Batumi to Kutaisi, one of the oldest cities in Georgia.
Following lunch we visit the remarkable Prometheus Cave, a vast underground world of stalactites and stalagmites. According to mythology, Prometheus – who brought fire to humanity – was chained in the Caucasus Mountains.
Later we visit the UNESCO-listed Gelati Monastery, once an important medieval academy and religious centre.
Our final stop of the day is Bagrati Cathedral, a historic monument overlooking the city of Kutaisi.

Day 3 – Medieval Monuments & Sacred Rivers
After breakfast we travel to the town of Gori to visit the Stalin Museum, built near the birthplace of Joseph Stalin.
We then continue to Mtskheta, the former capital of Georgia and one of the country’s most sacred cities. Located at the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi rivers, Mtskheta is home to several UNESCO World Heritage monuments.
Here we visit the impressive Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and enjoy free time in the historic town centre.
Before leaving the city we stop at the hilltop Jvari Monastery, offering panoramic views over the rivers and valley.
In the evening we arrive in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

Day 4 – Stories of Tbilisi
After breakfast we explore the historic streets of Tbilisi.
Our first stop is the impressive Sameba Cathedral, the largest Orthodox church in Georgia.
We then travel to Rike Park and take the cable car to Sololaki Hill, where the iconic Mother of Georgia statue overlooks the city.
Descending back into the old town, we explore Abanotubani, the historic sulphur bath district known for its colourful wooden houses.
After lunch we visit the famous Tbilisi Flea Market, where visitors can discover antiques, Soviet-era artefacts and contemporary artworks.
The day ends with a walk across the modern Peace Bridge and a visit to the whimsical Clock Tower.
In the evening, guests may join an optional Georgian dinner and folklore show.

Day 5 – Farewell to the Caucasus
After breakfast we explore Freedom Square and Rustaveli Avenue, two of the most important locations in the city.
Before departure we visit the monumental Chronicles of Georgia, a striking sculpture complex depicting scenes from Georgian history and mythology.
Later we transfer to Tbilisi International Airport, concluding our journey from the Black Sea to the Caucasus.
